About the awards

Posted by Admin on August 8th, 2007

The 2007 Performance Awards looks to build upon the highly successful schemes of previous years from the launch of the Awards Scheme back in 1997. In 2007, the IRRV received a record number of applications.

This year, the Institute agreed to introduce a new category of ‘Most Improved Team of the Year’ to recognise the achievements of organisations that have delivered improvement over a range of performance indicators. This category alone attracted 33 applications.

In addition to receiving a record number of applications, the quality of entries has reached a new level this year. Entries were received from all areas of Great Britain and across Europe. This is highlighted within one of the categories where the three finalists are all from different countries.

It is the responsibility of the Awards Panel to oversee the process. They act independently of the IRRV National Council and take all the decisions. Only members of the Awards Panel are aware of the winners until the envelope is opened on stage.

The closing date for submissions was the 1st June 2007. The Awards Panel agreed a short list later that month and appointed Inspection Teams to visit each of the short-listed organisations. The inspection stage is seen as an essential part of the decision making process

Inspection Teams were made up of experts in the fields of Revenues, Benefits and Valuation. Visits were conducted throughout July and August and their reports were considered by the Awards Panel in late August. The finalists were then selected in each of the nine categories.

The Awards Panel have again agreed to recognise in some categories, organisations that whilst not the winner, were so close to winning, that they deserve to be "Highly Commended". These will be announced by the President once the winning organisation has left the stage.

A focal part of the Annual Conference is the Awards Village. During the week, delegates have been voting on the best stand in the village. The winning organisation (as selected by delegates) will be announced later this evening.
