Annual Fraud and Professional Training Event (in association with LAIOG)

Birmingham Council Chamber, 10-11 May 2012.

Item Date 23/02/2012/ 1368

Latest News: Baroness Hanham,  the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State has confirmed to be keynote speaker at the event.

This annual fraud event will bring together decision makers, managers and practitioners to discuss the latest developments around the prevention and detection of fraud and error across the public sector.

Recent estimates suggest that fraud costs the public sector approximately £21bn. The Government has highlighted fraud as a key area in which major savings can be found and has set its priorities as collaboration, assessment, measurement, prevention and taking a zero tolerance approach. At a time when pressure on local authority funding is high the need to tackle fraud loss is heightened.

A full programme will be available shortly.

The Implications of Local Support for Council Tax for Directors of Finance and Chief Executives of Precepting Authorities

18/01/2012 / 1379

Pre-amble to Precepting Authority workshop

As the Chief Executive or Chief Financial Officer of a Precepting Authority, you need to be aware of the significant implications of the localisation of support for council tax.  If you have not had the opportunity to read the consultation papers or the CLG response, this workshop will give you or your officers and opportunity to understand the importance of the changes in the relationship with Billing Authorities in your area.

The workshop will be led by David Magor, the Chief Executive of the Institute who is a member of the CLG Reference Group that is considering the development of the legislation and practice on this important matter.  The new arrangements come into force on the 1st April 2013, therefore time is short and you need to put your planning processes in place now in order to ensure that you will meet the obligations under the new legislation.

This is a workshop you can not afford to miss.
