Understanding Universal Credit

A one-day meeting designed for local authority staff who want to know more about Universal Credit and the effect on existing customers and legacy benefits administered by them.

It is designed for all levels of staff wishing to explore the effects of Universal Credit on customers and would be suitable for employees with little or no knowledge of the detail of the new Benefit. It would be equally suitable for customer service staff requiring knowledge of Universal Credit to enable them to best advise customers and for back office staff wishing to understand the impacts on existing claims.

Attendees will gain an understanding in all the following aspects of Universal Credit:

Understanding of Universal Credit and how it fits into the overall Welfare Reforms
The implications of the Full Service vs Live Service
Overview of how it is calculated and paid
Conditionality and sanctions
Implications for the Local Authority
- Personal Budgeting Support
- Assisted Digital Support


The meeting will be delivered by Louise Freeth FIRRV, Change and Service Development Manager at Liberata


The course starts at 10.00am following teas and coffees from 09.30 and finishes at 4.30pm unless otherwise stated. Lunch and refreshments are provided during the day.

The Institute will make every effort to give delegates as much notice as possible of any programme changes or the cancellation / re-scheduling of an event. However, it does reserve the right to make changes to advertised programmes and to cancel / re-schedule events. In the unlikely event of an event being cancelled / re-scheduled, either a full refund will be made or alternatively, any fee paid will be credited against a future booking. The Institute will not be liable for any travel and / or accommodation costs incurred by the attendee should an event be cancelled / re-scheduled.

On receipt of the registration form with purchase order number the IRRV will issue a receipted VAT invoice at the prevailing rate. Payment must be received in advance of the event. The Institute reserves the right to refuse admission where delegate fees have not been paid.

Cancellations made 2 weeks before the meeting will be subject to an administration charge of 50% of the fee plus VAT. Cancellations after this date are liable for the full registration fee. A substitute delegate is welcome at any time at no extra charge.
