Michelle Kettles started work as a civil servant within the DHSS, but moved into local government benefits work in 1990. After working as a benefit assessor for Wolverhampton city council, Michelle moved to South Staffordshire District Council to take on the role of Benefits Team Leader; and she is now the Benefit Manager overseeing Housing Benefit and Fairer Charging/Welfare Benefits including the impact of the implementation of Universal Credit.
In 2014, Michelle was the project co-ordinator for the Universal Support delivered locally project, of which South Staffordshire was one of the 16 LA’s appointed, that was commissioned by the DWP to look at the support required by those who would claim Universal Credit and what role the LA can play in providing that support. The case studies and lessons learned by her team has helped shape some of the services that are now being implemented across the country.
Michelle has worked closely with many organisations and developed strong relationships that allow discussions to develop and working practices to improve for the benefit of the customers.
