Role of the Council in the Magistrates Court

This one day professional meeting is to be delivered virtually by Gary Watson IRRV (Hons), Deputy Chief Executive, IRRV. It will look at the role played by the Council in the Magistrates Court and be of interest to practitioners working in council tax and / or non-domestic rate.

The meeting will cover the action that needs to be taken prior to, during and after a liability order hearing. In addition to covering the statutory provisions, the course will focus on the role played by the officer that represents the billing authority in the Magistrates Court. This will include what they should do in advance of the hearing as well on the day itself.

Delegates will be provided with a hand-out in advance of the meeting. The morning will include workshops and exercises (when attendees will work together in break-out rooms) whilst the afternoon will be dedicated to running a mock liability order hearing. A number scenarios will be considered where attendees take on the role of taxpayers and the billing authority representatives. IRRV staff will assume the role of magistrates and clerk.

The course starts at 10.00am and finish approx. 4.30pm. Numbers will be limited to 20.

PROGRAMME CHANGES AND CANCELLATION / RESCHEDULING OF EVENTS
The Institute will make every effort to give delegates as much notice as possible of any programme changes or the cancellation / re-scheduling of an event. However, it does reserve the right to make changes to advertised programmes and to cancel / re-schedule events. In the unlikely event of an event being cancelled / re-scheduled, either a full refund will be made or alternatively, any fee paid will be credited against a future booking. The Institute will not be liable for any travel and / or accommodation costs incurred by the attendee should an event be cancelled / re-scheduled.

 

VAT RECEIPTS
On receipt of the registration form with purchase order number the IRRV will issue a receipted VAT invoice at the prevailing rate. Payment must be received in advance of the event. The Institute reserves the right to refuse admission where delegate fees have not been paid.

 

CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations made 2 weeks before the meeting will be subject to an administration charge of 50% of the fee plus VAT. Cancellations after this date are liable for the full registration fee. A substitute delegate is welcome at any time at no extra charge.
