This one day training course is to be delivered virtually through ‘Go-To-Meeting’ by Roger Bowen IRRV.  As Housing Benefit is still in payment for new and existing supported and temporary accommodation and is likely to be for some time this course is aimed at those Housing Benefit officers dealing with these complex claims. 

This course would also benefit those Landlords and Housing Association that are looking to invest in these properties.

Attendees will gain an understanding in the following aspects of Supported Accommodation:

· Overview of exempt, supported and temporary accommodation.

· Temporary accommodation

· The Landlord commitment and criteria

· Definition of Support

· Allowable service charges and if they can be restricted.

· Exceptionally high rents

· Contrived or not.


Course Details
The course starts at 9.30am and finishes approx. 4.30pm unless otherwise stated. Numbers will be limited to 20.

The course will be delivered by Roger Bowen, Apprentice Officer, IRRV.

Roger has been a trainer for nearly 45 years with 25 years in the retail trade and has nearly 20 years in training staff in Housing Benefit for a number of Authorities where has gained experience with working with different systems, policies and procedures which has been extremely useful in training officers from new starters to experienced staff. 

He holds a teaching certificate and for the last four years he has been a tutor with the IRRV Distance Learning team, two years ago he joined the IRRV apprenticeship team and now also answers the Benefit technical queries.

He has trained in many topics within Housing Benefit including self-employed, Directors of companies, persons from abroad, overpayment classification and has a lot of experience in dealing with exempt supported accommodation as well as a lot of other topics.

The Institute will make every effort to give delegates as much notice as possible of any programme changes or the cancellation / re-scheduling of an event. However, it does reserve the right to make changes to advertised programmes and to cancel / re-schedule events. In the unlikely event of an event being cancelled / re-scheduled, either a full refund will be made or alternatively, any fee paid will be credited against a future booking. The Institute will not be liable for any travel and / or accommodation costs incurred by the attendee should an event be cancelled / re-scheduled.

On receipt of the registration form with purchase order number the IRRV will issue a receipted VAT invoice at the prevailing rate. Payment must be received in advance of the event. The Institute reserves the right to refuse admission where delegate fees have not been paid.

Cancellations made 2 weeks before the meeting will be subject to an administration charge of 50% of the fee plus VAT. Cancellations after this date are liable for the full registration fee. A substitute delegate is welcome at any time at no extra charge.
