Role of the Council in the Magistrates Court

16 April - SOLD OUT

This one day ‘Upskilling Session’ is to be delivered virtually through ZOOM, by Gary Watson IRRV (Hons), Chief Executive, IRRV. It will look at the role played by the Council in the Magistrates Court and be of interest to practitioners working in council tax and / or non-domestic rate.

The day will cover the action that needs to be taken prior to, during and after a liability order hearing. In addition to covering the statutory provisions, the course will focus on the role played by the officer that represents the billing authority in the Magistrates Court. This will include what they should do in advance of the hearing as well on the day itself.

Delegates will be provided with a copy of the presentation in advance of the session. Throughout the day, there will be workshops and exercises, when attendees will work together in break-out rooms, before reporting back to the Group. In the afternoon, there will be a ‘mock liability order hearing’ where attendees take on the role of the magistrates, billing authority representative and taxpayers.
